Planning to protect our waves

Image of Jock Patterson at Brighton Marina

Surfers Against Sewage, like the Surfrider Foundation are actively campaigning to protect surf spots and create surfing reserves.

My home town has recently issued a draft City Plan that sets out planning policies for 15 years. To my surprise,  it recognises the value of surfing at Brighton Marina which is locally and regionally important. Its a step in the right direction (especially as it was threatened by a development proposal a few years ago) but the other spots in Brighton and Shoreham are not protected. If you want to help protect our local surf spots, go here.

Unless surfers and groups like SAS stand up for surfing, the authorities won’t.
