Nick Thorn and Paul O’Grady at Lynmouth

Last Friday wasn’t what was predicted but a dramatic morning all the same. Nick Thorn is the surfer and Paul O’Grady the scarecrow. Catching up with old mates in the coffee shop was good. Today I had a fantastic recording session with my wonderful friend Doug and this track is one of many we recorded for use on the Journal. You can hear more of Doug’s music on his website and buy his albums!.

This track is titled ‘Monday Morning’. The words for this song (not featured here) were originally penned by Cyril Tawny back in 1961.

I re-wrote this version after hearing it play at a folk music session in Combemartin, Devon.
The opening lines to the song are – “To soon to be out of my bed. To soon to back to this bus queue caper. Fumbling for change for my picture paper on a Monday morning”

This song is dedicated to those of you lucky enough to spend the first few day light hours of your winters Monday morning or any weekday morning, sliding a few waves at your local break as most of us are either in bed dreaming of waves or at working looking at them on a web cam.

Thank you Wave Dreamer for bringing these two elements together and for making that ‘Monday morning’ that little bit more bearable.
