The local National Trust team put together this lovely afternoon with a speech from Steve Mulberry and Ray Easterbrook, an amazing story teller who immersed us in the history of the point and live music from Jim Jones, oh and not forgetting the sound track from David Kenards sheep. [read more]
The Ploughing day
What a fantastic start for our allotment site! On the 7th of Feb South Molton Vintage Rally Club came to Woolacombe with their tractors and ploughed out the 21 full size plots leaving 1.4 metre paths of the meadow between the plots. Thanks so much to them and Linda who all worked so hard to make it such a memorable day and they raised several hundred pounds for charity. Thank you to Woolacombe School children who have a full size plot of their own, and treated us to two wonderfully original performances. Thanks Also to Giles our wonderful vicar who blessed the site and the soil. To Angus from the red barn who donated a keg of Beer and Peter Robinson from the Museum of British Surfing, Jack and friends who looked after the time lapse camera. and to Skelly for his tune on an English concertina. And of course a huge thanks to Jonathan our local NT warden who has supported us all the way and to Robin May who gave up this part of his field from his tenancy, without his generosity we wouldn’t have the best possible site for our plots!
it opens tomorrow!
Yes the last preparations are being made for the official opening of the allotment site.
A huge thanks to Jonathan Fairhurst our Local National Trust warden who has been so brave! Its Jonathan and his hardworking team that have enabled us to achieve so much so quickly and it was the confidence in our vision of the NT land manager Steve Mullberry that got us a site right next to the village.
And in a long list of people to thank we have Robin May who relinquished part of his field from his tenancy so we could have our site in the best possible place. Linda and Robert from the South Molton Vintage Rally Club who ploughed out our plots. David Kenard, Wayne Copp and Nick Zeal who have all helped with advice, support, manure and more!
Watch this space next week for a video of the ploughing day and pics of the opening ceremony!

a new Journal
I have been looking for a connection to make sense of the new journal about to appear on wavedreamer. I have been really passionate about two activities in my life, one is obviously surfing, the other is growing food. You know what, the connection is SELF RELIANCE at a time when we are all so interdependent it is liberating to do things that sustain and nourish, physically and emotionally without the need for someone else to contribute. Whats really special for me is to be able to do both activities in locations within sight of each other!
Its that time allready, another splendid weekend for the girls and what fun they had. Pro surfer Keala Kennely was there to pass on her wisdom and play a set. Sound track thanks to local band Zamba who know how to party! [read more]
A quick look back at the end of last summer, when wavedreamer filmed the annual Billabong Girls Days at Woolacombe. We had been invited back for the second year to film the girls weekend and produce this little movie for TV and the internet. It features two local girls, Lucy and Laura, going tandem on our 10ft camera board, watch out for these two!

The sun did shine sometimes on some days this August & the unsettled weather provided a spectacular show of cloud formations.
I’m going to use these cloud studies as an excuse to learn more about cloud formations, their names and what they mean in terms of weather prediction.
Pop back soon when I may have had a chance to add some text to these photos.

A collection of waves, taken daily around North Devon. On the days where we just don’t have any surf to speak of, I will try to take a picture that best exemplifies the spirit or mood of the coast on that day!

Some of my photos on a crisp winter afternoon. There was frost on the dunes that morning and some of the north facing slopes remained white and sparkly until the following day.

‘Valley of the Wolves’ derives from the ancient meaning of the place name Woolacombe. As winter approaches, all sorts of things change. The chip shop has closed and its getting dark and cold – what else could we do?
It’s often those that might be considered long in the tooth that reveal their true nature. Watch this one evolve over the next couple of years!
Woolacombe Surf Lifesaving Club
The Woolacombe Surf Lifesaving Club do great work with lots of young people and have allowed us to film them for ONEDAY.
Buckie and Hunter Boardwear
Special thanks must go to Buckie and all his retail experience, for attempting to impart at least some of his greedy capitalist ways on me
PP Surf Art
Steve is featured in ONEDAY living the life in Woolacombe & its all his fault that I live 200 yrds from the beach. Thanks Steve!
Gulf Stream
Always up for a project, the men at Gulf Stream are a cultural beacon shining bright in North Devon. They don’t just make pieces of art that you can ride waves with, they do other stuff too, pop into their gentleman’s outfitters in Braunton, it’s full of girls stuff.
It only takes a bit of sun, no wind, clear water and a chest high wave to transport me to summers past. This weeks offering is from the wavedreamer archives, all the things I ache for at this time of year. [read more]
