Since 1996 there’s been a group of surfers paddling their boards and other weird and wonderful craft around one or other of Brighton’s piers. Founded by Dave ‘Sandals’ Samuel, it started as a fundraiser for Surfers Against Sewage and has now grown into the biggest free beach festival in Europe, maybe the world.
It’s on Hove Lawns this weekend (6th / 7th July) and it raises loadsamoney for charities. For the second year running it will be attempting to stage the world’s most popular beach clean, courtesy of SAS and Barefoot Wine (2pm-4pm on Saturday 6th). There are tons of fantastic activities on land and sea and entertainment on offer. Nearly all of this is laid on by volunteers and generous sponsorship.
Paddle Round the Pier is the best example of surfers doing something good for greater society. Please support it.
